A preacher is walking down the street one day when he notices a very small boy trying to press a doorbell on a house across the street. However, the boy is very small and the doorbell is too high for him to reach.
After watching the boy’s efforts for some time, the preacher moves closer to the boy’s position. He steps smartly across the street, walks up behind the little fellow and, placing his hand kindly on the child’s shoulder, leans over and gives the doorbell a solid ring.
Crouching down to the child’s level, the preacher smiles benevolently and asks, “And now what, my little man?”
To which the boy turns and hollers, “Now we run!”

Ever wonder about the abbreviation A.S.A.P.? It brings to mind hurry and stress–’Get this done as soon as possible.’ Let’s give it a new meaning to better deal with those rough days along the way.
* There’s work to do, deadlines to meet. You’ve got no time to spare, but as you hurry and scurry-A.S.A.P. (Always Say A Prayer).
* In the midst of family chaos, ‘quality time’ is rare. Do your best; let God do the rest-A.S.A.P. (Always Say A Prayer).
* It may seem like your worries are more than you can bear. Slow down and take a breather-A.S.A.P. (Always Say A Prayer).
* God knows how stressful life is; He wants to ease our care. He’ll respond to all our needs-A.S.A.P. (Always Say A Prayer).
16 Be joyful always;17 pray continually;
18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

With the last days of summer flying by it’s time to sit down and set forth some family goals for the fall. There will only ever be one Fall 2010, when you are ____ years old and your kids are ________ years old…… so what will you and your family make of this once in a lifetime fall??? What experiences and adventures would you like to plan and make happen? Share some of your hopes and goals in our comments section.
If you’ve never had a family calendar before the article below gives some great advice on how to prepare and set family goals. It’s a good idea to do this before the fall season gets underway because once it gets here, there’s no stopping until Christmas. The time goes by so fast; we’ve got to discipline ourselves to step back and prioritize how we will spend our time this fall and how much time we WILL spend together as a family.
SETTING FAMILY GOALS

18 Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.19 Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.20 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,
21 so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the Lord swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.
Deuteronomy 11:18 -21

CAN CHANGE A LIFE!
AND THAT’S NO SMALL CHANGE
First United Methodist Church is piloting an exciting new community outreach right here in Odessa.
Here’s your opportunity to become a MENTOR, a PRAYER PARTNER, or a SUBSTITUTE MENTOR.
We are partnering with Cavazos Elementary School on West 16th street in Odessa and will be working to impact the lives of children as we build relationship with them and listen to them, read with them, help them with homework, and maybe even play games with them.
Mentors are being assigned now for the new school year – contact Kris Riley krisriley@fumcodessa.org of call 432.337.1527 if you are interested in more information about investing your time to make a difference in the life of a child.
